Surya and Pant made optimal use of the foundation laid by openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (40 off 21) and Shubman Gill (34 off 16) as Pakistan had decided to make India bat first, a decision that back fired. In response, Sri Lanka put up a fight through contributions from Pathum Nissanka (79 off 48) and Kusal Mendis (45 off 27), however stumbled at the end.
